What an amazing season !

Not only have Cranleigh Ladies Hockey Club won promotion in their anniversary year, but also Cranleigh Men’s Hockey Club have been promoted for the second consecutive year in a row, and not just one division but TWO DIVISIONS.

Inspired by Olympic Gold in Rio, the Cranleigh Ladies 1st XI are promoted to Division 5 in the Surrey Ladies Hockey League. The ladies’ promotion is a great way to finish a very special year in which the club celebrated their 40 years anniversary with a series of charity events and a party for players past and present. And at the end of the season there was a unanimous decision that the ladies merged with the men to form the new Cranleigh Hockey Club (CHC).

Cranleigh Men’s team stormed to another amazing season, not only topping their division and moving up two divisions to Surrey Open Hockey Division 2, but also becoming the most successful club in the whole league scoring 160 goals and with only 26 against, over the past 2 seasons.
The creation of the new club CHC will help the ladies and men’s teams go from strength to strength. There are also plans to create a mixed team for social hockey in the summer and eventually develop a youth section to give local girls and boys the opportunity to play this fast growing sport. There will also be umpiring courses and goalkeeper coaching, as well as regular training with a qualified coach.

To encourage new members, CHC have undoubtedly the lowest annual subs in the area – only £55 per year. A great way to get fit and join in the social activities.

Sam Watkinson, the chairman of the newly formed club said, “ This is such an exciting time for hockey in our area – we want to encourage people of all abilities to get involved in the game and we are planning many social events, bootcamps, and mixed games over the summer. The double promotions for the mens and ladies teams have been a dream start for our new club”.

Both ladies and men train at Cranleigh School Astroturf on Wednesdays at 19.30hrs from September.

– Get inspired and come and join Cranleigh Hockey Club. A very friendly, family-orientated club and best value hockey in the area. New players, all ages and abilities, always welcome.
